About AOA

Founded in 1887, the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) is the oldest orthopaedic association in the world. At its core are the ideals of its mission: “To identify, develop, engage, and recognize leadership to further the art and science of orthopaedics.”

Recently, the AOA took a leadership role by launching the Own the Bone program. The program focuses on fragility fracture care, rather than osteoporosis prevention. The seriousness of the fracture episode provides physicians with a “teachable moment” in which it is possible to impact behavior.

The AOA believes that a cooperative effort between patients and their health care providers can result in a ripple effect throughout entire communities. The AOA encourages you to support Own the Bone.
