Registry 2.0

The American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) is pleased to announce its selection of nPhase, Inc. REDCap Cloud Unified Data Management platform for the next generation version of the Own the Bone quality improvement patient registry.  The new REDCap Cloud registry platform is scheduled to launch in the third quarter of 2019.  Own the Bone institutions will have access to new functionality to document the bone health management of their fragility fracture and other orthopaedic patients.

REDCap Cloud was launched in mid-2016 to address the need for a regulatory compliant and commercial-grade version of REDCap Classic, the most widely used and successful academic Electronic Data Capture (EDC) research solution developed at Vanderbilt University.

The AOA’s Own the Bone® program is a national quality improvement program seeking to change provider and patient behavior in order to reduce the incidence of future fractures and positively impact bone health treatment.  Over 250 institutions in all 50 states have participated in the program, and documented the bone health management of orthopaedic patients in over 75,000 patient encounters.

Paul A. Anderson, MD, FAOA, who chairs the Own the Bone steering committee, is pleased to see the program offer the REDCap Cloud platform to orthopaedic providers, including surgeons, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other multidisciplinary specialist physicians. “REDCap is well known at many of the Own the Bone centers, and we are pleased to be able to offer the REDCap Cloud platform to our users.  New features will facilitate the work of the clinician teams ensuring the bone health of their patients. We are excited to announce this registry enhancement to a broad network of clinicians at Own the Bone institutions as the program celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2019.”

The REDCap Cloud platform will provide new flexibility and improved experience for user sites through the following features:

  • Enhanced capabilities for sites to download and analyze their data
  • Site access to user administration features to designate user accounts and permissions
  • A data import option for centers wishing to prepare exports from their Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
  • Improved patient panel management capabilities
  • iOS and Android apps

A scheduled series of registry training sessions took place in late August and September for all clinical users, and on demand training videos are currently available.

The AOA’s Own the Bone program now joins the global REDCap community, which currently consists of over 300,000 users at more than 1500 institutions. The AOA’s Own the Bone program will be one of the largest multicenter studies on the REDCap Cloud platform at the time of its launch this autumn.
