Steamboat Orthopaedic and Spine Institute – Steamboat Springs, CO

The American Orthopaedic Association is excited to officially welcome Steamboat Orthopaedic and Spine Institute (SOSI) to Own the Bone! Let’s take a closer look at their institution and what they aim to achieve through the program.

About the Institute

Steamboat Orthopaedic and Spine Institute is a private, physician-owned, outpatient Orthopaedic practice that serves the rural communities of Northwest Colorado. They have partnerships with local hospitals such as Yampa Valley Medical Center, Steamboat Surgical Center, UC Health, Memorial Regional Hospital, and Intermountain Health. Furthermore, they have recently become the Official Medical Providers for the US Ski & Snowboard team. They are also collaborating with the Steamboat Winter Sports Club to ensure local athletes have access to top-notch orthopedic care and can safely return to their sport at their highest level of performance.

Goals for their Bone Health Program

Steamboat Orthopaedic’s goal is to expand their program to complement their orthopedic practice, ensuring that patients receive the best preventative care in addition to orthopedic treatment. They serve a very active community, whether it be with their recreational activities or their work, that is invested in their health and being proactive versus reactive. Their enthusiasm for joining Own the Bone stems from the additional support the program provides to their Nurse Practitioner, who runs the clinic. Own the Bone ensures that the program continues to thrive and assists them in reaching their goals.

A Message from their Program Champion

Bridget Mucha, NP-C, Own the Bone Program Coordinator and Champion

“Orthopedics typically has not been the leader of conversations around bone health optimization in the past, however with an increased focus on preventative care we should absolutely be leading these conversations with our patients and be viewing them as a whole. What sparked my interest in the Own the Bone program was the additional support and resources offered to assist in implementing a bone health program within SOSI so we may continue to provide the best, evidence-based, patient care in our rural community. Our patients care about optimizing their health to prevent disease and we need to continue to evolve as an orthopedic practice to partner with them so they can achieve their health goals. My goal with our bone health program is to improve bone density screening for men and women within our community and initiate treatment before and after when a fracture occurs so we may continue to keep our patients healthy, independent, and confident in their bodies” -Bridget Mucha, NP-C, Own the Bone Program Coordinator and Champion.
