National Recognition

The American Orthopaedic Association regularly recognizes Own the Bone sites for their commitment to improving patient bone health after a fracture. Own the Bone enrolled hospitals and practices that achieve a 75% compliance rate with at least 5 of the 10 Own the Bone prevention measures, based on patients screened and entered into the registry during the preceding 12 month period, receive a special recognition as “Own the Bone Star Performers” in the annual recognition ad in U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” Guide. Through their participation in Own the Bone and recognition as an Own the Bone Star Performer, institutions demonstrate a commitment to helping patients understand their risk for future fractures and the steps they can take to prevent them.

  1. Log into the Own the Bone REDCap Cloud registry
  2. Select “Insights” along the left side menu.
  3. Click on the report titled “Patients Counseled on 10 Recommended Measures”
  4. Use the Date Filter at the top to enter the custom time frame for the recognition cycle that goes from July 1st to June 30th of each year
  5. Click “Apply”
  6. If, under “Percentage”, you have 75% or more for 5 or more measures, you are on track. You must also have a minimum of 10 patients screened and enrolled during the 12 month period.

Publicizing Recognition

In an effort to help designated institutions publicize their achievement each year, Own the Bone provides a media toolkit for sites that have achieved Star Performer status. The toolkit includes a Star Performer certificate and logo that recognized institutions can include in newsletters, brochures, newspaper advertisements, or wherever they would like to advertise their efforts.
