The American Orthopaedic Association is proud to announce The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics as a newly enrolled Own the Bone system! Read more about their practice and goals for their program.

About the Practice

The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics (CAO) is more than 600 providers united by a commitment to the highest standards in patient care. They offer over 150 musculoskeletal sites in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia. The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics is one of the largest independent groups of orthopaedic surgeons nationwide. They provide patients with the highest standard quality of care, professional environments, state-of-the-art equipment, convenient locations, and a broad range of insurance options. Their goal: To optimize health outcomes with immediate access to care for their patients as quickly as possible, using evidence-based guidelines for surgery and therapy.

Goals for their Bone Health Program

CAO is launching the Own the Bone program to improve long-term outcomes for patients who have experienced a fragility fracture. These types of fractures—often caused by osteoporosis or low bone density—are warning signs of more serious issues. Unfortunately, many patients are never evaluated or treated for the underlying bone health conditions that lead to these fractures. By implementing the Own the Bone program, they aim to close this care gap. This nationally recognized, evidence-based initiative helps ensure patients receive appropriate evaluation, education, and follow-up care to prevent future fractures.

Through the Own the Bone program, they will help their patients by:

  • Identifying at-risk patients: They screen for signs of osteoporosis and low bone density in patients who suffer fragility fractures.
  • Educating patients: They provide education on bone health, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle changes that support strong bones.
  • Coordinating care: They connect patients with bone health specialists and ensure they receive recommended diagnostic tests and treatments.
  • Preventing future fractures: By addressing the root cause, they significantly reduce the risk of additional, potentially more serious fractures.

Ultimately, their goal is to keep their patients active, independent, and healthy—empowering them to own their bone health and prevent repeat injuries.

A Message from their Program Champion

“We’re incredibly excited to launch the Own the Bone program at CAO. As orthopaedic specialists, we treat the fractures—but this program allows us to go a step further and address the why behind them. It’s about prevention, education, and empowering our patients to take control of their bone health. This is a game-changer in how we care for those at risk of future fractures.” – Dr. Noah Raizman, MD, FAOA, Orthopaedic Surgeon at CFAOrtho.com, Own the Bone Program Champion.
